Even when others tell him his friend is probably dead, Tintin continues anyway. Tintin In Tibet sees the journalist trek across the Himalayas to search for a friend who is missing after a plane crash. He’s a smart, intrepid problem-solver, but he is also kind-hearted. His assignments take him across the world – from the Soviet Union to Egypt and even to the Moon in a rocket ship (fifteen years before Apollo 11). He’s a young and adventurous Belgian journalist, constantly risking his life alongside his trusted dog Snowy to solve the mysteries he uncovers. It’s worth, when considering like, look at what the Tintin character is like in the books. And the reason why is because Spielberg and Jackson get so much right about Tintin. Therefore, as you might expect, I adored The Adventures Of Tintin when it was first released. I even owned the video-game tie-in for the film on the Nintendo 3DS. I read and reread those stories constantly as a kid. I own all 24 stories, including the unfinished Tintin And Alph-Art, as well as massive coffee-table books on the series.
Like Jackson, I have been a massive fan of Tintin since I was a child. Jackson’s schedule has been cited as the reason another film hasn’t happened, and it seems unlikely now to do so.

The resultant movie earned $374m at the global box office, which should have cemented those plans for more movies. Instead of shooting in live-action, motion-capture technology was used to depict the classic quiff of Tintin (played by Jamie Bell), the bulbous nose of Captain Haddock (Andy Serkis) and the slightly dissimilar moustaches of Thomson and Thompson (Nick Frost and Simon Pegg). But the first went ahead under Spielberg’s directorship. The plan was for Jackson to direct a second movie, that to date hasn’t appeared. The first of three planned Tintin movies was finally going ahead. But it wasn’t until Spielberg started working with Peter Jackson – a fan of the Tintin comics since childhood – that the director could realise Hergé’s character illustrations as accurately as possible. This was a project decades in the making for Spielberg, who became interested in Tintin after reading a review of Raiders Of The Lost Ark that compared his film to the books by the Belgian cartoonist Hergé.

The script has amazingly been written by Steven Moffatt, who also wrote Sherlock as well as a fair few of the newer Dr Who episodes, Edgar Wright ( Scott Pilgrim vs the World) and Joe Cornish ( Attack the Block), so it had a lot of clout behind it.A look at Steven Spielberg’s The Adventures Of Tintin on its 10th anniversary, from someone who has been an enormous fan of the Tintin series since childhood.Ģ021 marks, remarkably, the tenth anniversary of Steven Spielberg’s movie The Adventures Of Tintin: The Secret Of The Unicorn. The Adventures of Tintin Secret of the Unicorn was released in the cinema on the 26th October 2011 with the DVD hitting the shelves on the 19th March 2012. Combined with the directorial power of Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson’s production skills and Weta Digital to provide the motion capture 3D animation, the film was an impressive first outing for the young detective. Tintin favourites, twin detectives, Thomson and Thomson, are also heavily involved in the storyline, played by Simon Pegg & Nick Frost ( Paul DVD). Craig also voices the character of Red Racham, but there’s a lot more to that when you watch the film. However, things are made difficult with the nefarious presence of Ivan Ivanovitch Sakharine, played by Daniel Craig ( Skyfall) to content with, as he’s on a mission to secure the treasure too. In a dash to get to Haddock’s ancestral treasure they must piece together the aftermath of pirate, Red Racham’s, sinking of Sir Francis Haddock’s ship the Unicorn. Starting out with Tintin’s first meeting with Captain Haddock the story is a globe trotting adventure. The story picks up with Tintin in an adaptation of three of Hergé’s comic books published in the 1940s, The Crab with the Golden Claws, The Secret of the Unicorn and Red Rackham’s Treasure. Jamie Bell took the starring role of Tintin, with Andy Serkis ( The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey) portraying the legendary Captain Haddock. The Adventures of Tintin: Secret of the Unicorn is the first of Hergé’s brilliant cartoons creations to be made into a film in the 21st Century, bringing together an amalgamation of a few of the Belgian cartoonist’s books.
Sadly only one of these classics was made into a big budget film in 2011 (fingers crossed for the rest though).
If you grew up with an eye for cartoon adventures then you probably liked Jamie and the Magic Torch, Galaxy High, Mask, Thunder Cats and Hergé’s Adventures of Tintin.
